The Role – Director of Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Department at WFN takes a holistic approach to health, addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our community members. Our comprehensive services promote overall wellness and include primary health care, mental health and addictions counseling, community health programs, and home and community care.

Reporting to the CAO/ Director of Operations, the Director of Health & Wellness is a key member of WFN’s Senior Leadership Team.  In this role, the Director leads a team of 20 to build and execute the strategy as well as successfully deliver ongoing daily operations. This role requires an experienced leader with demonstrated abilities to build strong relationships and trust within the WFN community, including a demonstrated commitment to engage with community members around existing and new opportunities for leading Indigenous Health & Wellness program initiatives.

The Director leads the strategy to create and deliver programs, access funding, and embark on research initiatives. To excel in this role, strong administrative acumen, leadership in financial management, budgeting and planning and experience developing and overseeing operational contracts, agreements and MOUs is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Health & Wellness management team on the development of a detailed service model to implement and monitor ongoing management of excellence in care and services to Westbank First Nation Membership;
  • Plan, manage, direct, and control program operation including the establishment of the strategic and operational work plan, program goals, objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), protocols, directives and guidelines;
  • Lead the development of culturally safe Health and Wellness services and programs based on vision, benchmarks and key performance indicators, developed through WFN Health Plan.
  • Provide leadership, strategic advice, and oversees the process of feedback collection, risk management, and continuous improvement. Oversees annual Department budget preparation in accordance with Finance policy
  • Lead financial reviews that includes monitoring program direction, delivery, cost, result and oversee program reporting and evaluation.
  • Represent WFN at key stakeholder meetings related to WFN Community Health & Wellness services for example but not limited to; Interior Health (IH), Primary Care Network (PCN), Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA), First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and First Nations Health Directors Association (FNHDA).
  • Participate and regularly act as a spokesperson on assigned service areas issues and responds to queries raised by the CAO/Director of Operations, Council, staff, and community members.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in health and wellness service program planning, with a deep understanding of community program development and implementation.
  • Two (2) years of experience at a Senior Management Level, with experience managing and developing budgets to align with operational and strategic planning.
  • Experience in developing and executing health and wellness strategies in Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Strong strategic thinking abilities, staff engagement skills, and a commitment to building and leading a team.
