Federal action needed to help address rising stress and burnout among healthcare workers

Federal action needed to help address rising stress and burnout among healthcare workers

HealthCareCAN is issuing a call to action to address the rising stress and burnout rates among healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

To facilitate the growing need for resources for health care providers, HealthCareCAN is asking the government to:

  1. Ensure proper mental health supports and programs are in place to assist healthcare workers now and once the pandemic is over.
  2. Work with stakeholders, address the factors that contribute to increased stress, anxiety, depression and burnout in healthcare workers.
  3. Implement a national health human resources strategy to tackle the shortage of health professionals, create a more inclusive and resilient health system, and deliver on your government’s promise that every Canadian have access to a family doctor or primary health care team.

The Quality Mental Health Care Network (QMHCN), co-led by HealthCareCAN and the Mental Health Commission of Canada, unites health sector leaders from across the country in an effort to remove barriers hindering access to high-quality mental health services. The QMHCN addresses structural stigma, promotes recovery-oriented practice, and furthers the work of the Collaborative by continuing to support psychologically healthy and safe workplaces in health care. This includes enabling recovery-oriented practice, addressing stigma, and improving access to quality mental health care across Canada. Click here for more information on the framework.
