With the 2021 federal pre-budget call for submission underway, HealthCareCAN is strengthening our commitment to ensure federal funding for health and health research are a top priority in next year’s budget.
HealthCareCAN President and CEO, Paul-Émile Cloutier, spoke with the Hill Times earlier this month to further press the importance of federal investment in these areas.
“COVID-19 was a wake-up call, if not a clarion call to say that our health system needs to be looked at,” said Mr. Cloutier. “I worry that the health care system will face funding cuts in the future to decrease the federal deficit, as we often bear the brunt of government austerity measures and spending cuts,” he added.
The HealthCareCAN pre-budget submission, currently under review by members, focuses on three key issues: the unsustainability of health care as-is and the health research ecosystem; access to research and innovation funding; and expanding the role of virtual care, as well as enhancing cybersecurity in our health organizations.
HealthCareCAN is looking forward to sitting down – virtually – with key politicians and officials within the federal government to discuss how best to move forward on developing a new pan-Canadian approach to health care, one that benefits the health research ecosystem, care providers, and most importantly, Canadians.
