Nurse Practitioner – Urology Inpatient and Ambulatory Programs

Nurse Practitioners play a critical role to our success. We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join the Urology Program, as a dual inpatient and ambulatory role, to provide leadership and promote inter-professional excellence and collaboration in child and family-centred -care within the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, research and leadership/change agency in a dynamic clinical environment.
Employment Type: Part-Time or Full-Time (17.5 – 35 hours per week: 0.5 – 1.0 FTE), Contract 1year.
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do
- Be responsible for the provision of comprehensive health care to various patient populations in urology, across inpatient and ambulatory care settings.
- Integrate clinical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice, caring for patients/families with urological issues.
- Provide leadership in advancing clinical practice and the provision of safe and high quality child and family-centred care.
- Provide guidance to children and families as they progress through their treatment plans
- Identify appropriate community resources and services, creating linkages.
- Assist in the acquisition of specialized equipment as required.
- Foster interprofessional collaboration in the coordination of plans of care.
- Assume a leadership role in advancing the quality of clinical practice and the provision of high quality, safe care, within the team, and in the development of others.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and Interprofessional colleagues.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programming to effectively transition youth and their families to adult services.
- Identify, integrate and evaluate research-based innovations for improving patient care.
- Commit to reducing preventable harm through Caring Safely – for example, role model error prevention behaviours in practice, and provide leadership with strategies to reduce hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) in the Urology patient population.
- Partner with children/families to navigate their illness trajectory
- Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge using formal and informal channels.
- Provide relevant health education to families that is based on their needs, learning styles and stage of development.
- Conduct environmental assessments (home, community, school) and help guide child/family through the treatment program.
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Master of Nursing or equivalent, with a clinical focus
- Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program (within MN or post-master certificate)
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the RN (Extended Class)
- 3 – 5 years of clinical nursing experience. Experience in Pediatric acute care, surgical, or as an NP considered an asset.
- Proven ability in a leadership role.
- Ability to act as a change agent, and foster teamwork and consensus-building.
- Innovative critical thinking with excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of theoretical and conceptual frameworks and their practical application.
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion.
