Political leaders must heed the dire warnings delivered by Canadians

Political leaders must heed the dire warnings delivered by Canadians

For immediate release

September 13, 2022, Ottawa – HealthCareCAN, the national voice of Canada’s healthcare and health research institutions, strongly believes that our political leaders must heed the dire warnings delivered by Canadians in a series of recent public opinion polls showing broad dissatisfaction with access to healthcare services.

Canadians are losing – and in all too many instances, have already lost – their faith that they will be able to get the healthcare they need, when they need it. This, despite the fact that doctors, nurses and healthcare personnel throughout the system are working harder than ever to paper over the cracks undermining the system.

The failure of political leaders at the federal, provincial and territorial levels to come together to address the number one concern of Canadians – ensuring access to high-quality healthcare – is a shocking abdication of their responsibilities as leaders of our nation.

The people of Canada, including those working in the healthcare system, are looking to their leaders for action and support. Unless and until that happens, pessimism about healthcare in Canada will only continue to worsen.
