HealthCareCAN drives home need for LTC solutions at seniors’ roundtable

HealthCareCAN drives home need for LTC solutions at seniors’ roundtable
March 2, 2021 – HealthCareCAN was pleased to bring the voice of healthcare and health research to a recent virtual town hall meeting organized by Minster of Seniors Deb Schulte and Parliamentary Secretary Stéphane Lauzon to dig into seniors’ care issues that should be addressed in the upcoming federal budget.

Also participating in the roundtable were representatives from:

  • AGE-WELL Network of Centers of Excellence
  • Alzheimer’s Society of Canada
  • Canadian Association of Long-Term Care
  • Canadian Dental Hygienists Association
  • Canadian Federation of Pensioners
  • Canadian Frailty Network
  • Canadian Home Builders Association
  • CanAge
  • Funeral Services Association of Canada
  • National Association of Federal Retirees

HealthCareCAN President and CEO Paul-Émile Cloutier took the occasion to stress the need for enhanced federal financial support and leadership to help address the challenges in long-term care and to modernize Canada’s health care infrastructure. Mr. Cloutier also highlighted the need for a national health human resources strategy as critical to improving seniors’ care in Canada.

“Canada desperately needs a national plan to ensure we have the right types of health care workers available to provide the right type of care at the right time and place,” said Mr. Cloutier. “This means creating a more integrated, resilient, representative and supported health workforce able to provide seamless, high-quality care from the institutional level right through to home care.”

HealthCareCAN continues to advocate that the federal government must use the upcoming 2021 Federal Budget as the opportunity to invest in healthcare and health research to address the serious gaps in Canada’s system that have been so tragically exploited by the COVID-19 pandemic.

HealthCareCAN is the national voice of healthcare organizations and hospitals across Canada. We foster informed and continuous, results-oriented discovery and innovation across the continuum of healthcare.
