Superclusters recognizes role of health organizations

Feb. 15, 2018 (Ottawa) –   HealthCareCAN is pleased that the federal government’s Superclusters initiative recognized the valuable role and contribution of the health sector.  One of the five successful superclusters unveiled today was the Digital Technology Supercluster.  Based in British-Columbia, this supercluster consortium includes major health organizations such as Providence Healthcare (supported by St. Paul’s Foundation), Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at University Health Network (supported by the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation) and SickKids.

“Our health organizations play a key role in Canada as an economic force and as a significant driver of innovation.  We commend Minister Bains and the federal government for recognizing this important role and putting the contribution of the health sector at work for the future of this country,” said Paul-Émile Cloutier, President and CEO of HealthCareCAN, the national voice of hospitals and health organizations.

The Digital Technology Supercluster is a cross-industry initiative dedicated to ensuring that BC and Canada are leaders in the digital economy.  It will use data to drive sustainable long-term solutions across the health, natural resources and industrial sectors.  It is estimated that 100 projects will be made possible by this infusion of federal investments.
